A nearly 30-year-old recording featuring Green Day performing “Stay” has surfaced. The band’s performance of “Stay” from a 1989 show in Berkley, California has been uploaded and shared on YouTube.
Green Day had only been a band for around three years around the time of the recording. They formed in 1986 as part of the California punk scene with Bad Religion, Rancid and Offspring.
Green Day’s 1995 breakout album, Dookie, turns 25 this year. Rumors circulated that the band intended to tour this year to play the album live in its entirety. While the band hasn’t confirmed those rumors, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told fans on Instagram that the band does want to plan something to celebrate the album’s 25. “Never despair,” Armstrong posted. “2019 still has time.”
