It’s been said that after the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan, hundreds of bands were started the next day. For Dave Grohl, the Fab Four’s influence was almost immediate, once noting, “if it weren’t for the Beatles, I would not be a musician.”
The Foo Fighters frontman recently revealed his favorite Beatles tunes, with George Harrison’s “Taxman” and “Something” rating pretty high on his list.
Grohl particularly likes “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” from Abbey Road, saying the track could give both Black Sabbath and Motorhead a run for the darkest and heaviest riff.
As for the first Beatles tune he ever heard, Grohl says it was “Hey Jude” at the tender age of four or five, admitting, “I don’t think I’d ever listened to a rock ‘n’ roll record and this was my introduction and it stuck with me ever since.”
Which albums would you describe as life-changing? What was the first record you heard?
