Thirty years after the one-man band’s heyday, Nine Inch Nails has apparently become hip with a younger generation of fans. Yet another current celebrity has covered one of Trent Reznor’s classic tunes.
Chris Hemsworth, in full costume as “Fat Thor” from Avengers Endgame, posted a video on Twitter Wednesday that shows him playing guitar and singing “Hurt.” Later, during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Hemsworth revealed the clip was shot in his trailer while filming Endgame. “I didn’t know if I was ever gonna show it,” he said, adding he picked the song — which gained more success as a Johnny Cash cover — because it fit Thor’s depressed mood. “It’s the saddest song in the world. And I’m a terrible singer and a terrible guitarist.”
Earlier this month, the Nine Inch Nails song “Head Like a Hole” found new popularity after Miley Cyrus parodied it in a new Black Mirror episode.
Does the renewed interest in Nine Inch Nails prove that Trent Reznor was ahead of his time? What NIN song should be covered next?
