President Biden Drops Out Of 2024 Race

In a nearly unprecedented move, President Biden announced Sunday that he would drop out of the 2024 presidential race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

In a statement released Sunday afternoon, Biden said “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus entirely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

The move comes after weeks of speculation and calls from fellow Democrats to step aside over concerns about Biden’s age and ability to defeat Donald Trump in November, following a disastrous debate performance in June.

Biden promised to speak to the nation in more detail later this week.

It’s the first time a sitting president has dropped a reelection campaign since Lyndon Johnson in 1968.  No president has ever dropped out this late in the race.

Who should be the Democratic nominee?  Will a new nominee have a better chance against Trump?  How will this move impact Biden’s political legacy?
