It’s one of rock’s worst-kept secrets: Panic! At The Disco is no longer an actual band. After most of the group’s original members dropped out, frontman Brendon Urie continued recording and performing using the moniker.
But now that Urie appears on Juice WRLD’s “Roses” using his real name, there’s been speculation that he may be stepping out from under the Panic! At The Disco banner once and for all. However, that speculation is unfounded, Urie says.
“I never really think about changing the name or give too much thought into doing something else,” he says. “I suppose I’m just synonymous with Panic! At The Disco. It’s become a bit of a meme I guess. For me what the Panic! name represents is a sort of no rules, cart blanche mentality, and I’ve never felt the need to be released.”
Do you think music sales would suffer if Urie dropped the band’s name? How many other artists can you name who recorded under a fictitious band’s name?
