Started in London in 1994, Placebo stepped onto the alternative rock scene in the middle of a transition in rock. Grunge was starting to decline and alt rock was starting to sound different. Released in 1998, Pure Morning was a critical success for the band, and it was a staple on their setlist until 2005. It dropped off for several years, but was officially added back in 2016. The lyrics “nauseated” lead singer and songwriter Brain Molko for years, but now that it’s probably “the” song people know them for, they play it live any time they perform.
